Q: What is your professional background?

I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.A. in Communication Disorders (San Jose State University) and with an M.Sc. in Speech Language Pathology (University of Alberta)
-
I'm a trained SPEAK OUT! provider through the Parkinson's Voice Project, and a trained provider of accent modification coaching
Q: What inspired you to focus on accent coaching and clarity in Canadian English?
A: I firmly believe that clear communication is a powerful enabler for success. As a global traveler to over 50 countries, I've seen how language barriers can get in the way of mutual understanding. Accent coaching can help individuals be better understood, boost their confidence, and open doors in academia, business, and personal relationships.
Q: Can you elaborate on your approach to accent coaching, and your practice more broadly?
A: I'm committed to staying at the forefront of my field by continuously learning and applying the latest research and best practices.
After an initial evaluation, I will suggest an action plan including a list of goal areas (specific sounds, intonation and rhythm changes, etc.) and suggest a timeline to target these areas. I strive to help my clients achieve their communication objectives through delivery of a personalized, research-based approach. My coaching sessions are highly effective AND fun!
Q: In your opinion, why is clear communication so vital in today's world?
A: Effective communication is absolutely vital. Whether it's for conveying a concept, sharing a laugh, or simply being understood, clear communication is a fundamental building block for happiness. I'm honoured to be able to make a difference in the lives of my clients by helping them in this way.
Q: Beyond your professional pursuits, what are your passions and interests?
A: Outside of my work, I love spending time with my husband and kiddos in the mountains. I enjoy teaching group fitness classes and playing pickleball.
How does accent coaching work?
Accent coaching is not about erasing your accent; it's about enhancing your ability to communicate effectively with a North American audience. It's a journey towards greater clarity in your speech, ensuring you're heard and understood with ease.
Many individuals seek accent modification training when they find that their accents hinder clear communication, leading to frustration and a reluctance to speak. I'm here to help you overcome these barriers.
Our sessions will encompass mastering the pronunciation of specific sounds in Canadian English, as well as refining the rhythm, stress, and intonation within words, phrases, and sentences.
To achieve lasting results, we recommend a commitment of a minimum of 10 sessions following the initial evaluation, ideally completed within a 4-5 month timeframe. This journey is your pathway to effective and confident communication.
